October 16, 2008 – Chicago Medical Helicopter Crash Kills 4

The crash of a medical helicopter transporting a 1-year-old girl to a Chicago hospital is currently under federal investigation, officials said.

The Air Angels Inc. helicopter reportedly went down in a vacant field while rushing a girl to a Chicago-area hospital from Sandwich, Illinois, FAA officials reported Thursday.

All four people on board the helicopterwere killed in the crash. The helicopter was carrying the sick girl, a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic when it crashed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be conducting an investigation into the incident, officials said.

According to officials, the crash does not appear to be the result of mechanical failure or inclement weather. The chopper may have caught a wire supporting a local radio station’s tower, station workers said.
