September 23, 2008 – 1 Dead in Fire after School Bus, Semi Crash

A tractor-trailer rear-ended a school bus in Florida on Tuesday afternoon, causing both vehicles to catch fire, said a Florida Highway Patrol official. One fatality was reported.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmy Pogue said the total number of students who were injured in the crash is still undetermined. At least twenty-three students were thought to be on board the bus at the time of the crash.

One student was airlifted to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
